Final Exam Policy
School begins August 31st and ends June 16th. Katella High School gives final exams at the end of the first semester and at the end of the year. The final exams are a critical part of a student’s grade because they are the measure of accumulated learning for the semester. The final exam can have a major impact on a student’s final grade. It can often be the determining factor in passing a class.
Every year students approach teachers asking if they may take the final exam early so they may attend an out of town event. Parents often call and request permission. Some teachers say “yes”, some say “no”, and the conflict grows. This is time consuming and unnecessary.
Because of the issues that arise because people schedule EVENTS before school is out we will adhere to the following policy:
STUDENTS MUST TAKE FINAL EXAMS DURING THE FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE.
The only exceptions are those listed in the California Education Code for excused absence.
Vacations, weddings, family reunions, cruises, hunting trips, etc. ARE NOT valid excuses for missing or rescheduling finals. Please plan your vacations and other events for when school is out. Please tell out of state family members and friends to plan re-unions, weddings etc. AFTER JUNE 16th. Students missing finals will receive a zero on their final.
The final exam schedule for the 2009-2010 school year is as follows:
Seniors:
Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11
Graduation day is Wednesday, June 16
All other students:
Tuesday June 15 and Wednesday June 16
The last day of school is June 16 Please schedule your personal events and trips around these dates.
